Spotify Lossless audio now rolling out to premium users

Spotify has started rolling out Lossless audio streaming for Premium users in select markets, offering music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality. Subscribers will receive an in-app notification once the feature is available.

Lossless Audio on Spotify

Lossless enables higher sound detail across nearly the entire Spotify catalog. It expands the Premium experience alongside features such as DJ, Jam, AI Playlist, Mix, and daylist, plus playlists curated by Spotify’s global editorial team.

Custom Streaming Settings

Premium users can set audio quality for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads separately. Options now include Low, Normal, High, Very High, and Lossless, with indicators showing estimated data usage for each setting.

Device Support

Lossless playback is supported on mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on many Spotify Connect devices from brands including Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will be added next month.

How to Enable Lossless on Spotify
  1. Open Spotify and click on your profile icon in the top corner.
  2. Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
  3. Enable Lossless audio for Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.

The Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing view and Connect Picker when the feature is active. Users must enable it separately on each device.

Streaming Recommendations

Spotify advises streaming Lossless audio over Wi-Fi with wired headphones or speakers, or through a non-Bluetooth connection like Spotify Connect, for optimal quality. Bluetooth does not provide sufficient bandwidth for uncompressed audio, so the signal is reduced before transmission. Since Lossless files are larger, tracks may take longer to start on first play, but load smoothly once cached.

Rollout Timeline

Lossless will expand to over 50 markets by October. Access has already begun in:

  • Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK.
