HUAWEI today introduced the Mate XTs Ultimate Design tri-fold phone in China as the successor to the Mate XT, which was introduced last year as the first world’s first smartphone with a tri-fold screen in production.

It retains most specifications as the original foldable including a 6.4-inch FHD+ screen when folded, 7.9-inch 2K screen when open half, and when fully open it transforms into a 10.2-inch tablet with a 3K screen. The screen uses COE pixel super light-transmitting technology, reducing power consumption by 13% The dimension and the weight are the same.

The display also gets M-Pen 3 stylus support that can also control the phone with the button.
The Mate XTs features a Tiangong hinge system with a dual-track linkage design, achieving extreme slimness. The outer hinge strength is increased by 23%, and the inner hinge strength by 16%. The ultra-modular tri-fold screen is double-impact resistant, increasing the screen’s impact resistance by 30%.

It features an eight-layer buffer structure in the hinge area and a flexible screen design, offering a combination of softness and strength. The thinnest screen thickness is 0.02mm, and the hinge area’s impact resistance is increased by 35%. It uses aerospace-grade special steel with a material strength of 2400MPa, offering ultimate strength and tensile resistance. Ultra-precision hinge assembly achieves an internal and external folding accuracy of 0.1°.
Another change is the SoC, which is the company’s own Kirin 9020 processor, which improves the overall performance by 36% compared to the Kirin 9000 in the predecessor.
It retains XMAGE imaging featuring a 50MP 1/1.56″ main camera with variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto rear camera and an 8MP camera on the inside. However, the 12MP ultra-wide camera has been replaced by a 40MP camera with 2.5cm macro option. This also adds 1.5MP multispectral sensor for better colours.
The HUAWEI Mate XTs is still powered by a 5600mAh silicon-carbon anode battery and supports 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 7.5W wireless reverse charging.
