Sony India has introduced two new compact 4K camcorders for professionals: the PXW-Z200 from the XDCAM line and the HXR-NX800 under the NXCAM series. Aimed at broadcast, event, and content creators, these cameras combine AI-powered autofocus, 4K120p slow motion, and enhanced zoom in a portable form factor.
Both devices feature a 20x Sony G lens with electronic variable ND filters, a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, and Sony’s latest BIONZ XR image processor, enabling high-speed performance and accurate subject tracking, even in fast-paced environments.
Weighing under 2kg, the PXW-Z200 (1.96 kg) and HXR-NX800 (1.93 kg) are fitted with a 3.5-inch LCD display, OLED electronic viewfinder, and detachable microphone holder. Dual rings on the lens barrel offer manual control over zoom and focus, with dials for iris and ND adjustments. Up to 12 user-defined buttons allow for custom function assignments.
Enhanced Autofocus with AI Tracking
Each camcorder integrates a dedicated AI chip to deliver real-time subject recognition and improved autofocus accuracy. With support for up to 120 frames per second in 4K, users can shoot slow-motion clips without compromising detail. Sony’s Active Mode stabilization combines optical and electronic technologies to maintain smooth video capture during handheld use.
Optical Zoom and Clear Image Extension
The included G Lens provides a 20x optical zoom (24mm–480mm equivalent) with an aperture range from F2.8 to F4.5. Using Clear Image Zoom, this range extends to 30x at 4K and 40x at FHD, allowing detailed shots even at long distances.
Recording Formats and Color Profiles
The camcorders support a broad set of formats:
- XAVC HS, XAVC S, XAVC SI, and proxy recording for lighter, editable versions
- The Z200 will additionally support XAVC MXF via firmware
- Supported color profiles feature S-Cinetone, HLG (Live, Mild, Natural), along with ITU709 and 709tone.
With XAVC HS Proxy (up to 16 Mbps), proxy workflows support uploading compressed files using HEVC (H.265) or AVC (H.264) to cloud or FTP.
Streaming and I/O Capabilities
The PXW-Z200 features 12G/6G/3G-SDI in/out, Timecode I/O, and standard ports like HDMI (Type A), USB-C, LAN, and REMOTE. Live streaming is supported over RTMP/RTMPS/SRT, with flexible network options via wired LAN or Wi-Fi.

Accessibility and Sustainability
Sony has integrated accessibility features including voice guidance, zoomable UI, and customizable speech settings. Environmentally, both camcorders incorporate SORPLAS, a proprietary recycled plastic material.
Since 2012, Sony claims to have substituted over 426 metric tons of virgin plastic in its imaging products. The packaging also reduces single-use plastic to minimize environmental impact.
