vivo has been teasing the X Fold5, successor to last year’s X Fold3, over the past few days. Today, vivo product manager Han Boxiao has confirmed that the phone will pack 8T LTPO AMOLED foldable and outer displays for the phone.
Display and Battery tech
He added that the display will feature ultra-high resolution and ultra-high PPI, so the details of the picture can be said to be very clear, and it will come with up to 4500nit local peak brightness matched with full brightness high-frequency PWM dimming and TÜV Rheinland global eye protection 3.0 certification, which is bright and more eye-friendly.
The Zeiss Master Color promises accurate colors, and the visual effects are shocking, he added.
Earlier today, he said that the X Fold5 can work even in -30°C with the second-generation semi-solid battery technology that extends the solid electrolyte from the positive electrode to the negative electrode based on the previous generation.
World’s first IPX9+ and IP5X ratings in a foldable
The vivo X Fold5 has three complete certifications: IPX8 (3-meter deep water) + IPX9 (high temperature and high pressure) + IPX9+ (underwater folding), and is the industry’s first IP5X dustproof folding screen.
Expected specifications
Based on earlier report, the phone will come with over 6000mAh battery, 90W wired charging, 30 wireless charging, feature 50MP Sony IMX921 primary sensor, a 50MP autofocus ultra-wide camera, a 50MP Sony IMX882 3x periscope telephoto camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
vivo product manager also said that it will break the world’s lightest large folding (inward folding) mobile phone record, and also posted a comparison photo of the side profile of the phone with the iPhone 16 Pro Max to show how thin it is.
The phone is said to get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner in the older models.
The vivo X Fold5 will be introduced later this June, and we should know the exact launch date soon. The company is not expected to introduce a Pro model this year.
