Airtel has announced the launch of a new security solution aimed at detecting and blocking malicious websites in real time across various communication platforms and applications. This initiative is presented as a continuation of the company’s efforts to combat spam and online fraud.
The new system is designed to operate across a wide range of digital touchpoints, including emails, web browsers, and Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as traditional SMS.
According to Airtel, this service will be automatically integrated and enabled for all its mobile and broadband customers without any additional cost.
When a user attempts to access a website identified as malicious by Airtel’s advanced security system, the system is intended to prevent the page from loading. Instead, customers will be redirected to a page that provides an explanation for the block.
The company highlighted the increasing threat of online fraud, noting its growth alongside the widespread adoption of digital platforms. Recent reports of online scams affecting numerous individuals were cited, indicating an evolution beyond methods like OTP fraud and deceptive calls.
In response to this landscape, Airtel stated it has implemented an AI-powered, multi-tiered intelligence platform. The new threat detection platform is described as a component of this system, designed to perform domain filtering across various platforms and block malicious links across devices.
Currently, the service has been launched in the Haryana circle, with plans for a nationwide rollout in the near future.
