Amazon Prime Video will show ads in India starting June 17; ad free add-on option available

Amazon India today started sending out mail regarding introduction of ads in Prime Video starting from June 17, 2025. This was announced last year, after Prime Video got ads in several countries, including the U.S. and the U.K.

If you don’t want to see ads, there is an add-on option that you will need to pay on top of the existing Amazon Prime membership.

It costs Rs. 699 per year or Rs. 129 per month that you can sign up for starting on June 17th 2025. Amazon also mentions Rs. 999 original price of the yearly ad free add-on plan, and Rs. 699 is the discounted price.

There will be no other changes to the Prime membership, said the company. “We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than TV channels and other streaming services,” it added.

Amazon hiked the Amazon Prime subscription costs back in 2023, and it now starts at Rs. 299 per month, but it did not increase the annual membership plan, which remains at Rs. 1499.

The reason for implementing ads is aimed at funding continued investment in content, said the company, and said that it will have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.

Prime Lite subscribers will continue to have access to ad-supported Prime Video’s full library of content, on any single device (TV or mobile) in 720p High-Definition at Rs. 799.
