BlackBerry Messenger v6.1 (Beta) brings animated avatars, new emoticons and more

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for the BlackBerry smartphones has been updated to version 6.1 in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. This version brings news features like animated avatars, fun new emoticons, customized colored chat bubbles, increased character count for personal messages and display picture integration. The BBM v6.0 was launched in July that had more social features, connected apps, BlackBerry app share and lots more. It comes pre-installed in the BB OS 7 handsets.

New Features in BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) v6.1

  • Use animated avatars instead of your display picture within the Avatars folder that is motion activated when you scroll over them
  • Now there are 12 fun emoticons that you can use while sending a message
  • That character count in the personal message space has been doubled to 160 characters
  • You can now change the color of chat bubbles for contacts with 10 colors to choose. You can also pre-assign colors to your contacts from BBM contacts’ profile and selecting a desired contact chat color.
  • Now you can update your BBM avatar right from the BlackBerry smartphone camera app by selecting “Set as BBM Display Picture” from the menu options after you capture an image.
Right now there are only 3 animated avatars, more would be added after the beta is over. These avatars are available only for BB OS5.0 and later.  Beta version of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) v6.1 could be downloaded from the Blackberry Beta Zone.
