vivo just launched the V30 series of smartphones in India today, and we have the V30 Pro, which is the successor to last year’s V30 Pro. This gets a better display, improved cameras, and a bigger battery. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

The vivo V29 Pro sports a 6.78-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The display is bright, thanks to, up to 2800 nits brightness, and the sunlight legibility is good as well. There is Schott Xensation α glass on the front for protection.

It has a tiny punch-hole that houses the 50-megapixel camera with Eye AF. The earpiece is present on the top edge, but it doesn’t act as a secondary speaker. The phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The V30 Pro is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset, same as the V29 Pro. It has up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and supports 5G SA/NSA with several bands. It runs Android 14 with FuntouchOS 14 on top, and the company has promised 2 Android updates and 3 years of security updates.

The phone has a power button and volume rockers on the right side.  The dual SIM slots, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the speaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is present on the top. It doesn’t have stereo speakers, which is a bummer.

The phone has triple rear cameras that include a 50-megapixel main camera with Sony IMX920 sensor, OIS, 50-megapixel 119° ultra-wide angle camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto portrait camera with Sony IMX816 sensor. The phone has ZEISS optics and 6 ZEISS Style Portrait options.

The phone has aura light, which is now 19 times larger, and its light is 50 times softer compared to the previous generation, and it identifies and adjusts the color temperature, extending the range of adjustment by nearly 20%, says the company.

It can record videos at 4k resolution at up to 60 fps from the front and rear cameras. It has standard and ultra stabilization, but the resolution is down to 1080p in ultra option since it crops the content. OIS does a good job in stabilization. You can adjust the aperture manually for portrait video, but this is limited to 1080p.

Check out the camera samples below.

The phone has an AG glass back with a matte finish, and the phone also comes in Andaman Blue colour. This uses a Magnetic ink process, with the texture transitioning smoothly from bottom to top. Gently rotating the phone causes the particles to shimmer, creating a Sparkling Water Ripple Effect, said the company.

The phone is just 7.45mm thick and weighs 188 grams, even though it packs a 5000mAh battery.

Priced starting at Rs. 41,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model, the phone will be available from Flipkart, vivo.com and offline stores starting from March 14th, with pre-orders starting today. Full review of the phone will be up soon.
