Truecaller just launch its new AI-powered Truecaller Assistant in the Truecaller app in India, after it was introduced in the U.S. and Australia.
This feature leverages machine learning, speech-to-text, and natural language processing technologies to create a call-screening solution to combat fraud and scam calls.
The Trucaller Assistant is a customizable, interactive, digital receptionist that can answer important calls and avoid unwanted ones, said the company. Truecaller says that the Assistant responds quickly and understands your caller with high accuracy.
You can see a live transcription of what the caller is saying, so you know who they are and why they’re calling. Then you can decide if you want to take over the call, ask the caller for more information with just a tap, or mark it as spam.
How does it work?
- When you get a call, it rings on your phone as usual.
- If you decline or don’t answer the call, it’ll be forwarded to your digital Assistant. They’ll answer and screen it for you using voice-to-text technology.
- When the caller responds to your Assistant, you’ll be able to see who’s calling and why on the screen.
- The caller will hear the assistant asking ‘hi, the person you’re calling is using a screening service, may I ask who it is?’ and the reason for the call.
- From here you can open up the chat window if you need more information. Then you can decide whether to accept or reject the call or even mark it as spam

- Truecaller Assistant offers a total of 5 different voices, including both male and female options.
- With advanced speech-to-text technology, the Assistant transcribes the caller’s message into text in real time.
- The Assistant has the capability to comprehend multiple languages including English, Hindi, and other regional languages
- Recording of the Screening allows you to review the call details later, ensuring that you don’t miss any important information or forget any details shared by the caller.
- You will have the option to customise the greeting that the Assistant conveys to unknown callers, so you can personalize the message that the Assistant delivers when it answers a call from an unidentified number.
Availability
Truecaller Assistant in the Truecaller app for Android is currently available in India in English, Hindi and ‘Hinglish’.
There is a 14-day trial to try out the feature, after that it will be available as part of Truecaller Premium Assistant plan that starts from INR 149 per month (INR 99 as part of the limited promotional deal).
