WhatsApp launches ‘Stay Safe’ campaign to educates users

WhatsApp Voice Notes

WhatsApp shows users how to stay safe from scams with its campaign ‘Stay safe with WhatsApp’. The campaign explains how to use WhatsApp’s features and measures to secure their online privacy.

WhatsApp updated its security features last month to offer users more options for their messages.

WhatsApp shares tips for preventing messaging scams and using key safety features to protect your friends and family as follows:

1. Enable Two-Step Verification: Add an extra layer of security to your account by enabling the Two-Step Verification feature. It requires a six-digit PIN when resetting and verifying your WhatsApp account to protect against phishing attacks and takeover attempts by scammers.

2. Report Suspicious Accounts: If you receive a suspicious message from an unknown person, contact the person or organization directly for clarification. Avoid sending any money or sharing personal information. WhatsApp allows you to block and report the sender right away to stop the cycle of scams.

3. Adjust Group Privacy Settings: You can decide who can add you to groups, increasing user privacy and preventing unwanted group invitations. If you find yourself in a suspicious group chat, exit the group and report it.

4. Control Who Sees Your Personal Details: Control your personal details such as your profile photo, last seen, online status, about, and status, and who sees them. You can also choose who can and can’t see when you’re online. Only showing your personal details to your contacts can help you avoid malicious actors.

5. Don’t Share Personal Information: Protect your personal information and privacy by avoiding sharing sensitive information such as your address, phone number, passwords, credit/debit card numbers, and bank account information.

6. Think Before You Act: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, tricking unsuspecting individuals into giving up sensitive information. Stop and take a moment to think before responding to suspicious requests or clicking on unverified links.
