Apple could move to USB-C for AirPods and other accessories

Over the last week, Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg together reported that Apple will likely swap the iPhone from Lightning to USB-C charging as early as possible next year. However, it may also be logical to go over to USB-C at the same time that Apple gradually phases out Lightning ports for other existing products as well.

The analyst clarified in a follow-up tweet that Apple’s other Lightning-powered devices would follow suit. According to Kuo, a port-less iPhone would “create greater complications due to existing wireless technology restrictions and the immature MagSafe ecosystem.”

Furthermore, the tweet claims that in addition to the introduction of a USB-C iPhone, Apple will also introduce new USB-C variants of its existing Lightning-charged products.

Accessories for Macs and iPhones also include AirPods wireless earbuds, the Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, and Mouse, as well as a MagSafe Battery Pack.
