realme 9 5G Unboxing and First Impressions


realme launched the realme 9 5G smartphone in India as the successor to the realme 8, along with the realme 9 5G Speed Edition. This comes with a similar 6.5-inch FHD+ 90Hz LCD screen and a MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC as the realme 8s, but this has a different camera setup, rear design and is also cheaper. We got hold of the phone, and here is our unboxing.

The realme 9 5G has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ LCD punch-hole screen with a pixel resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels, 20:9 aspect ratio 2.5D curved glass screen with gentle rounded corners. The display is bright, and the sunlight legibility is good as well, thanks to 600 nits peak brightness. It has 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate.

It has the punch-hole that houses a 16-megapixel camera, which has been in a standard in most realme mid-range phones. The earpiece is present on the top edge. Powered by Dimensity 810 6nm SoC with up to 6GB of RAM, the performance is good. It also has Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology, which can add up to 5GB to the existing 6GB RAM.

Coming to the button placements, the power button which includes the fingerprint scanner is present on the right side. The dedicated dual SIM and microSD slots are on the left, along with the volume rockers. The 3.5 mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom. Audio from the mono speakers are decent. The phone doesn’t have a secondary microphone on the top.

Coming to the camera, the phone has a 48-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and Samsung sensor. It has a 2-megapixel 4cm macro camera and a 2-megapixel B&W portrait camera with f/2.4 aperture. It supports up 1080p video recording with both the front and rear cameras. Check out some camera samples below.

realme 9 5G’s texture is inspired by the texture of changing sand dunes, said the company. In order to achieve this dynamic desert ripple effect, realme independently developed the industry’s first “ripple holographic gradient coating process” and innovatively applied its “super coating process”. The phone is 8.5mm thin, and weighs 188 grams even though it packs a 5000mAh battery. The phone has support for 18W fast charging.

The realme 9 5G  comes at an introductory price of Rs. 14,999 for the 4GB + 64GB version and the 6GB + 128GB version costs Rs. 17,499. It is available from realme.com, Flipkart and offline stores.
