WhatsApp to introduce end-to-end encrypted backups on iOS and Android soon

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been constantly adding new features to its platform like the recent iPhone to Android chat history transfer. Following that, the company is all set to introduce end-to-end encrypted backups soon.

WhatsApp will soon introduce end-to-end encryption for backups on iOS and Android app. This will be applicable for Google Drive and iCloud, where users back up their WhatsApp data on Android and iOS, and the company said that required an entirely new framework for key storage and cloud storage to enable this.

To recall, WhatsApp has been providing end-to-end encryption for messages and with this upcoming feature, users can add a password for these backups which will be required when they restore the backup. As for the rollout, the company says it should be rolled out to Android and iOS apps soon.

WhatsApp is also said to be working on Android to iOS chat history migration, and we can expect in an upcoming beta update soon.
