realme 8s 5G Unboxing and First Impressions


realme today launched the realme 8s 5G smartphone in India, along with the realme 8i. The enhanced version of the realme 8 5G comes with a similar 6.5-inch FHD+ 90Hz LCD screen, but pack a MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC compared to MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC in the realme 8 5G. We got hold of the phone, and here is our unboxing.

The realme 8s 5G has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ LCD punch-hole screen with a pixel resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels, 20:9 aspect ratio 2.5D curved glass screen with gentle rounded corners. The display is bright, and the sunlight legibility is good as well, thanks to 600 nits peak brightness. It has 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate.

It has the punch-hole that houses a 16-megapixel camera, which has been in a standard in most realme mid-range phones. The proximity and ambient light sensors are present under the screen. The earpiece is present on the top edge. Powered by Dimensity 810 6nm SoC with up to 8GB of RAM, the performance is good. It also has Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology, which can add up to 5GB to the existing 8GB RAM.

Coming to the button placements, the power button which includes the fingerprint scanner is present on the right side. The dedicated dual SIM and microSD slots are on the left, along with the volume rockers. Secondary microphone is on the top, 3.5 mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom. Audio from the mono speakers are decent.

The phone features a 64-megapixel main camera with f/1.8aperture, 2-megapixel 4cm macro camera and a 2-megapixel B&W portrait camera  with f/2.4 aperture. It supports up to 1080p 30 fps video recording. Check out some camera samples below.

Coming to the design, the phone has Infinite Star Design that is inspired by the mysterious universe and the vast starry sky. This changes colours when the light is reflected at certain angles. The delicate frosted feel is easy on the hands and allows better fingerprint resistance. The phone packs a 5000mAh battery with support for 33W Dart Charge fast charging.

Priced starting at Rs. 17,999 for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version, the phone will be available from Flipkart, realme.com and offline stores from September 13. HDFC and ICICI card users get Rs. 1500 flat discount.
