Google Pay now sends app notifications and transaction alert SMS in India

Google launched its UPI based mobile payment service ‘Tez’ back in 2017 and later rebranded it to ‘Google Pay’ last year with new features. Now, Google has announced new security features to the Google Pay application to reduce payment scams in India.

Google has now officially launched app notifications and SMS alerts to help users know when a transaction is done. Google says that it will send app notifications as well as SMS to inform users each time they receive a collect request to highlight that approving the request will deduct money from the users’ bank accounts. This has been introduced by Google to increase security and help users transact securely.

Google Pay already includes a bunch of security features like enhanced fraud protection with SafetyNet, secure access through PIN, scam protections and displaying prominent warnings to the user during money collect request.

Commenting on this, Ambarish Kenghe, Director, Product Management, Google Pay said:
We are mindful that at Google Pay, users are entrusting us with their most sensitive asset – their money. We are conscious of the responsibility that comes with this trust. The above security features and a lot more ongoing work in this direction are a small example of how we keep our users safe.
