Google Home Hub AI smart speaker with 7-inch display surfaces

Back in August, there were reports suggesting that Google is working on a new AI-based smart speaker with a display. There were no other details to go by back then, however, now we are getting to see the full renders of the device along with screenshots of the official product specifications page that provide a complete look at the upcoming smart speaker.

Going by the promotional content, Google might call it ‘Google Home Hub’ and will offer a 7-inch screen and with the ability to interact with the Google Assistant. Much like Smart Speakers from Lenovo, and others, the AI-based smart speaker with a display from Google will have its own limitations. The 7-inch display will display essential information such as the time, weather, and even information related to your daily commute via Google Maps.

Besides the display, it features a full-range speaker unit and a mute toggle. The specifications page even confirms that there will be a Charcoal variant, in addition to the white model. The Google Home Hub can be paired to a Next Cam to control security cameras and other compatible home appliances such as lights, TVs and more. It also brings access to Google Photos. It supports both 2.4GHz and a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection and the display itself houses ambient light and color sensors. The device weighs in at 480 grams.

If there’s anything that needs to be confirmed, it is the pricing and launch date. Going by the rumors, the announcement of this new smart speaker should not be too far away considering the fact that Google wouldn’t miss the holiday period. As noted, Google is targeting to ship around 3 million units in the batch and since the launch date (October 9th likely?) we don’t have to wait much longer to see what Google has up its sleeve.
