Singapore based X-Mini is known for their range of small sized Bluetooth speakers that somehow manage to sound way louder than their size would convey. When the company reached out to us to check out the X-Mini Nano X, we were obviously very excited. Follow along for our review.
As the name suggests, the Nano X is a nano sized speaker that can fit into the skinniest of jeans. Designed as a speaker that you can literally hang from a keyring, it is a diminutive piece of kit. There’s really not much to it other than the speaker.
In fact the entire unit is so tiny that there’s no space for buttons or volume rockers. The only button you’ll see is placed on the underside of the speaker. This doubles up as a power on/off and pairing mode toggle. Around at the back is a microUSB port for charging the speaker and that’s about it. The entire speaker can fit in your palm.
How does it sound though? Color us surprised but this thing gets shockingly loud. Nah, it’s not going to replace a high end wireless speaker or anywhere close to it. The XMini Nano does however get loud enough to fill a small room. The sound quality is unsurprisingly mids focussed. There’s little to no bass here. In fact bass heavy tracks end up making the poor little thing rattle around a table.
The Nano is especially well mated with content like podcasts which sound loud and clear. As long as you’re not too particular about sound quality, the X-Mini Nano will serve well as a speaker that you can simply stuff in a pocket and carry around. There’s a microphone onboard so you can use it for calls too. We tried making a few calls and were told that our voice sounded a bit distant so it is perhaps not the best option as a speakerphone. We’re also quite surprised by how X-Mini managed to eke out 6 hours of battery life from the nano. We regularly got between 4.5 to 5 hours of use out of the speaker with the volume set to high.
Look, the X-Mini Nano is a fun little toy that works surprisingly well. If you want a high end speaker, this obviously isn’t it. What it is though is an ultra portable speaker that can be stuffed in a pocket or hung from a keyring. It’ll serve in a pinch when you want something louder than your phone or want to listen to podcasts and audiobooks out loud. Priced at a very affordable Rs. 1399, we’re half tempted to get a bunch of them and stuff them in all our travel bags. You just can’t go wrong with it.
