Sony reportedly confirms Android 9.0 Pie update for range of Xperia smartphones, roll out expected to start in September

Apart from Pixel, only the Essential Phone has got the Android 9.0 aka Pie and now Sony has reportedly confirmed the next major Android release to six of its smartphones. The Xperia XZ2 series, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Xperia XZ Premium are among the first batch to get the Android 9.0 update.

The update to Pie will start from September and finish the roll out by November 2018. Apart from Sony, Huawei confirmed that it is testing the Android 9 for four of its devices including Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei P20, Honor 10, and Honor V1. However, Sony hasn’t confirmed Android P update to any other models other than the above-mentioned.

Android P system update includes Adaptive Battery that uses machine learning to prioritize system resources for the apps, App Actions that helps you raise the visibility of your app and help drive engagement using machine learning, and Slices are a new way to surface rich, templated content in places like Google Search and Assistant.

Google confirmed that devices participated in the Beta program; the Sony Xperia XZ2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Nokia 7 Plus, OPPO R15 Pro, Vivo X21 / X21UD and OnePlus 6, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive the Android 9.0 update by the end of this fall.
