Panasonic P100 First Impressions


Panasonic has been launching its smartphone under mid-range and low-end segment to up its place in the Indian market as well as to up their sales through both online and offline. The company recently launched P100 smartphone under budget segment that surprisingly comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, fingerprint scanner, which is a rare sight indeed for a smartphone under Rs. 6,000.

The Panasonic P100 directly competes against the likes of Redmi 4A, Moto C, 10.or D and many more. The Panasonic P100 comes in Blue, Black, Gold and Dark Grey colors, with a price tag of Rs. 5,299 for the 1GB RAM variant and Rs. 5,999 for the 2GB RAM version. The Panasonic P100 comes in unibody design measuring 145x73x9.9mm and weighs around 174.8 grams. The Panasonic P100 is one of the very few smartphones available with a removable battery, dedicated space for SIM and MicroSD card.

At this price point, the P100 feels solid in hand, offers good grip, and compact in hand as well. The USP of this device is its fingerprint scanner and it is placed on the rear side of the device for more comfort. In our usage, the phone is quick to unlock the device when the finger is placed.

This smartphone is powered by quad-core MediaTek MT6737 64-bit processor clocked at 1.25 GHz with Mali-T720 taking care of graphics department. In our experience, we didn’t face any issues, as the device was butter smooth throughout our usage. Even the multitasking was smooth, thanks to 2GB RAM.

The Panasonic P100 sports an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera with LED flash on both the sides. It comes with an array of features including Anti-shake, Face-detection, Auto-scene detection and EIS for videos as well.

Furthermore, it comes with Panorama, Face beauty and HDR modes. During daylight conditions, the picture came out very well with natural colors and fine details. The AF is fast to lock the subject as well. During low light conditions.

The Panasonic P100 comes with a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD 2.5D curved glass display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The display is vibrant with good color reproduction and sunlight legibility. In fact, the multimedia experience in this device is surprisingly immersive with the combination of good audio and visual. The Panasonic P100 supports various connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The Panasonic P100 is powered by a 2200mAh battery on board as well.

Apart from the fingerprint scanner, the Panasonic P100 also comes with Smart lock & Smart actions. Talking about the smart actions, it has a pocket mode, where it prevents or locks the unnecessary touch gestures on your phone screen when it is placed in a pocket and flip to mute, where you need to flip the phone to mute the ringtone.

The Smart lock, on the other hand, keeps your P100 locked when it’s not with you, and unlocks it when your device is safe. In this device, you can choose to have Android unlock based on Bluetooth connections, trusted locations, when you’re carrying your device with you, or during on-body detection.
