Samsung Gear Fit2 Hands On

Samsung Gear Fit 2 -8

Alongside the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung introduced a new version of its Tizen powered Samsung Gear Fit fitness wearable. Dubbed the Fit2, it focusses on improved ergonomics, design and capabilities and if our brief impressions of it are anything to go by, it manages to accomplish that as well.

Samsung Gear Fit2 specifications

  • 1.5-inch (216 x 432 pixels) Curved Super AMOLED display
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 512 MB RAM, 4GB internal storage
  • IP68 certified (up to 30 minutes in up to 1.5m of water)
  • Bluetooth v4.2
  • Tizen OS (Compatible with phones running Android 4.4 or later with 1.5GB RAM or more)
  • Standalone music player
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyro, HRM, Built-in GPS, Barometer
  • 200mAh battery

The Gear Fit 2 is equipped with a 1.5inch curved AMOLED display that fits along the curve of your wrist and is pretty comfortable as well with just a back and home button on the right.

The watch ships in two band variants and the straps can be switched out if you want. The heart rate sensor lies at the back. Despite being a fitness watch, the Gear fit 2 is designed to be worn on a day to day basis and for this you can swap out a number of watch faces to choose whichever you like.

The Gear Fit 2 is a rare example of a fitness watch that goes well beyond the capabilities of its competitors that mostly just track running, walking and basic workouts. The Gear Fit 2 can also log complicated workouts like yoga to calculate calorie burn. While running, you can use the built in GPS module to keep a track of the total distance traveled and the calories burnt. The entire interface is very fast and fluid with no lags anywhere around.

Unlike Android Wear, the relatively closed platform on the Gear Fit 2 keeps it well optimized. You can add a number of new widgets as well including a pretty nifty caffeine intake tracker. Remember that all of this data syncs back to S-Health.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 -7 Scrolling all the way to the left reveals the notifications hub where updates from your phone can be tracked. Samsung says that the 200mAh battery can get you about 2-3 days of usage out of it but we’ll be waiting to test that out shortly. The Gear Fit2 is priced at Rs. 13,990 in India and we’ll have a full review out shortly.
