Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had launched 4G services for its employees in December last year. Now, it looks like the company is gearing up for a public launch of the 4G service soon.
According to a latest report from The Hindu Business Line, Reliance Jio has started shipping 4G SIM cards to Reliance Digital Stores along with Customers Application Forms (CAFs) across the country. The company will offer the 4G SIMs for free to buyers of its LYF and other 4G handsets throughout the country but will focus on metros. Reliance has launched LYF Flame 1, LYF Wind 6 4G enabled devices earlier this year.
The 4G service will be tested on certain customers and the SIMs can be activated within four hours of a user submitting the CAFs. After activating the SIM, a customer can start using 4G services, added the report. Going forward, the report mentions that Reliance will not roll out VoLTE services just yet.
Reliance Jio has Pan India 2300 MHz spectrum band and 1800 MHz in 14 circles. Last month the company teamed up with eight communications service providers across the world to bring better products and services to customers everywhere. Currently, it is not known when Reliance Jio will roll out 4G commercially to general public.
