Xiaomi’s 12.5 inch Notebook tipped to be available in April

Few months back we had come across the news about the possibility of Xiaomi working on a laptop/notebook. Now, a new report from Digitimes states that Inventec will undertake ODM production of a 12.5-inch notebook for Xiaomi.

The report stated that the Taiwan based company will manufacture Xiaomi’s 12.5-inch laptop/notebook at its factory in Shanghai. Shipments for this device will begin in April 2016, added the report. In September this year, Richard Lee, chairman of Inventec had said that the company was working with Xiaomi on a laptop.

Moving on, the report further states that Xiaomi was planning to manufacture both 12.5 and 13.3-inch notebooks along with Inventec and Compal Electronics. Apparently, both the devices were scheduled to be launched at the same time but Xiaomi will launch the 12.5-inch model first, as per the sources. Although, the report does not offer any information about the specification of this 12.5 inch device, it is said to resemble Apple’s MacBook Air and it will cost 2,999 Yuan ($470).  Most of the components of this notebook will be supplied by Chinese makers by the way.

A Bloomberg report in September had stated that Xiaomi was thinking about producing a laptop range that would compete with Apple’s MacBook Air range.
