Huawei has released Android 5.1 (Lollipop) update for the Honor 4X smartphone, as it promised last month. The Android 5.1 update brings new features, functionalities and improved user experience with visual refinements along with the new Emotion UI 3.1 update. It released Android 5.1 update for the Honor 4C and Honor 6 smartphones last month and released the update Honor 6 Plus few weeks back.

New features in EMUI 3.1 update based on Android 5.1 for Huawei Honor 4X

  • ‘Perfect Selfie,’ save your personalized beautification settings. Every time you click a selfie, the phone will identify your face and apply those settings.
  • See notifications on the home screen: No more unlocking your screen to read notifications. You can access notifications directly from the notifications bar on the unlock screen without having to swipe.
  • Increased speed and convenience while searching:  Adds an all-new search bar in the Settings function.
  • Time-lapse photography:  No matter how long the photography is, a video as short as 40 s is generated by means of intelligent dynamic frame extraction.
  • More privacy via ‘Hidden Apps’ on the home screen: Feature of hiding apps on the home screen itself. All you have to do is slide upward with two fingers on the home page to display any hidden apps.
  • Badge App icons: User can disable badges for a particular badge icon.

The Android 5.1 update for the Huawei Honor 4X is not available over-the-air (OTA). You need to manually download the ZIP file for the smartphone from the official Honor India support site here and follow the instructions inside the file to update the smartphone. Huawei recently confirmed Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) update for the Honor 4X and several other smartphones in China.

[Update 2: Huawei has uploaded the update file again, this time it has uploaded it as torrent since their severs couldn’t handle the downloads. You can read more about it on the official Honor India blog here.]

[Update: Huawei has removed the update file without any reason.]
