Gionee has sent out invites for the launch of its first phone that is Made in India. The launch event is scheduled for Monday, October 12th in Visakhapatnam. The first Made in India Gionee phone will be launched by Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, said the company.

Back in July Gionee announced that it will foray into contract manufacturing of smartphones in India. Last month the company said that it has teamed up with Foxconn, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer and Dixon technologies for assembling phones in India starting from mid-October. At that time it said that Foxconn will make smartphones from the F Series and P Series for Gionee at its Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh.

Gionee already said that will be investing US$ 50 million in the next three years on manufacturing in India and plans to increase the investment in R&D team in India, which will work on the Gionee’s Amigo UI to give better consumer experience. Xiaomi already launched the Redmi 2 Prime manufactured at the Xiaomi and Foxconn facility in Andhra Pradesh. Lenovo and Motorola started manufacturing smartphones in the country since August.
