The latest warehouse in Chennai takes Flipkart’s total warehouse strength in India to 15. Flipkart has invested in improving the supply chain in Chennai and surrounding areas. The center is the latest addition to Flipkart’s logistics network and technology that aims at providing easy access to e-commerce services for sellers and the convenience of faster delivery for customers. Flipkart says that hundreds of sellers have already registered in Tamil Nadu and the facility will perform both inbound and outbound functions. The company claims to focus on technology and aims to make its logistics more robust by introducing services such as automation and robotics in the warehouses.

“Tamil Nadu, is one of the fastest growing states that has seen an upsurge in demand for technology products like mobile phones. It was hence important to invest in the existing feeder capabilities and serve the ever rising demand from customers. “With an expanding range of products across categories, new facilities become an integral part of our growth plan”

said Binny Bansal, COO & Co-founder, Flipkart in a statement.

The new warehouse will service key regions in Tamil Nadu with a dedicated team of experts who will be stationed there for training the staff and streamlining operations in the facility. Flipkart’s competitor Amazon announced last year that is will open five new fulfillment centers in India in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon).
