Microsoft to encrypt Bing search by default

Search encryption has been available as an option for Bing users and has been the default standard for Google and Yahoo users for quite some time now. Starting this summer, all your search queries through Bing will be encrypted by default and will bring increased security.

While this is excellent news for users, the company is looking out for webmasters as well. Referrer strings that point out where exactly a reader came from will still be provided, What will be hidden though is what the reader was searching for. Microsoft will be providing a Search Query Terms Report that will show what kind of queries triggered ads and performance metrics.Additionally, Universal Event Tracking can provide enhanced metrics associated with the queries.

Without getting too technical, the immediate benefit really lies for the end user. Encrypted search is yet another way to ensure the privacy of Bing users.
