The Microsoft Lumia 540 is the down-graded version of Lumia 640 and is targeted towards entry-level users. The latest mid-range smartphone from Microsoft will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 2, Moto E 2015 and Lenovo A7000.

For starters, Microsoft Lumia 540 comes is vibrant hues and the glossy polycarbonate body attracts attention in no time.  The device is available in Cyan, Orange, Black and White color option and we personally like the Cyan version more than any other paint job.

The Lumia 540 is a Dual-SIM smartphone and is about 9.4mm thick. The popular Lumia build also means that the device is a bit on the heavier end, weighing 152 grams, but this also contributes towards the solid feel in the hands.

The screen is a 5-inch IPS LCD unit ClearBlack display with a 720 pixel resolution that accounts to a pixel density of 294ppi. The viewing angles and the color rendering of the HD panel is great.

Microsoft has gone with a Snapdragon 200 processor for its Lumia 540 smartphone, which means you get a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 302 GPU. There’s also 1GB of RAM on board to help keep the performance smooth.

Moving on, the camera department is led by an 8 megapixel unit that uses a small 1/4″ BSI sensor with a 28mm f/2.2 lens. Microsoft Lumia 540 boasts a 5 megapixel front facing shooter, which is capable of capturing videos at 480p.
