Despite the Apple Watch being quite new on the market, there are already quite a few 3rd party bands available for the smartwatch. Now Apple have announced it’s new program where 3rd party strap makers can make certified “Made for Apple Watch” straps, quite similar to the “Made for iPhone” program.

In order to get the certification, makers will have to adhere to a list of requirements and guidelines. The makers have to make sure that the straps are compatible with Apple’s Watch because of the lugs that slide out easily with the press of a button. These lugs will be provided to them by Apple themselves or they can make it themselves as long as they use Apple approved materials to make it.

The strap also has to be of a proper size and fit so as to ensure the heart sensor is able to rest properly on the skin. They also need to follow environmental regulations and make sure they do not use magnetic chargers in their straps. Now that Apple has given the go ahead, we can expect some interesting accessories for the Apple Watch that adds new features to the device.
