Recently a Google devices codenamed Flounder appeared on Chrome Issue tracker. Now the codename has appeared on Android 4.4.3 (KitKat MR2) Changelog. Google usually uses fish-themed codenames for their Nexus devices such as Hammerhead, Tilapia, Manta etc. So it is clear that this would be the next Nexus device. The changelog also confirms that HTC will manufacture the device.

AOSP Changelog HTC Flounder

The line “project device/htc/flounder-kernel/” in the changelog confirms HTC as the OEM of the Nexus device. This could be the next Nexus 6 smartphone or the  rumored HTC-made Nexus 8 tabletThe change log on AOSP has also uncovered yet another codename “Google Molly”. This could be a set top box or the successor to the Google Chromecast.

HTC made the first Nexus phone, but we did not see a HTC-made Nexus device since Google chose Asus to manufacture both the Nexus tablet. What could be the Nexus Flounder? A tablet or a smartphone?

Hope we can get some details about the upcoming Nexus device or the mystery “Google Molly” project at the Google I/O 2014 next month.
