Twitter adds real-time pop-up notifications for web

Soon after giving its profiles pages a Facebook like overhaul, Twitter has now added a new feature to its website. The popular microblogging site has announced that it is rolling out pop-up notifications for users of Twitter.com.

Users will see a notification window alerting them about replies, retweets, favourites or other activities via a ping or bubble. These notifications will appear in the lower-right hand corner of the user’s timeline. With help of these notification pop-up, users can directly reply, favorite, retweet and follow from within which makes them more interactive. This feature is somewhat similar to Facebook’s real-time notifications which only redirect you to that particular post.

Twitter stated that users who do not want to receive these notifications can control them via setting. They can choose the types of Web notifications they want to receive, just like with email notifications. The company has been focusing on enhancing its services on both mobile and web platform for some time now.

Earlier this year, Twitter improved search filters that lets users search for photos, videos, news, people you follow, and nearby locations. While last month it updated its iOS and Android apps with photo tagging and multiple photo upload.
