Microsoft announced the Windows Phone 8.1 at the build conference in San Francisco few hours back. Skype has announced that upcoming update for Windows Phone 8.1 would brings new features. This includes option to switch from a regular voice call to Skype video calls. Microsoft also unveiled Cortana Windows Phone 8.1 assistant to take on Siri and Google Now. New Skype will bring Cortana control to make Skype calls.

You can use Cortana commands like “Skype, get [a person’s name] on video” to make a Skype video call. Skype for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT apps would also be updated as well with new features like option to pin Skype app to the taskbar and make it accessible on both Start and desktop screens.

Skype would offer a preview of the voice call to video feature through the Windows Phone Store soon. Cortana will be included in a Skype for Windows Phone 8.1 update in coming months once the update starts rolling out for Windows Phone devices.
