ARM unveils second generation Mali-T600 GPUs for tablets and smartphones

ARM has announced 3 new GPUs, Mali-T624, Mali-T628 and Mali-T678 in the Mali-T600 series for tablets, smartphones and smart-TVs. These would offer 50% better performance and would include, Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression (ASTC), a texture compression technique and are based on the Mali Midgard architecture.

The Mali-T624 GPU scales from one to four cores using innovative tri-pipe architecture, whilst the Mali-T628 from one to eight cores that provides up to twice the graphics and GPU compute performance of the Mali-T624 for smartphones and smart-TVs. These are optimized for advanced consumer applications, such as 3D graphics, visual computing and real time photo editing for smartphones and smart-TVs.

ARM Mali-T678 GPU features

The ARM Mali-T678 GPU offers the highest GPU compute performance available in the Mali-T600 series and offers 50% performance improvement compared to the Mali-T658 that was launched last year. It is optimized for graphical displays to consumer applications such as 3D graphics, visual computing, augmented reality, procedural texture generation and voice recognition.
