Amazon introduces Sumerian service to quickly and easily build AR, VR and 3D apps

At the Re: Invent AWS event, Amazon Web Services; an Amazon.com company has introduced Amazon Sumerian service that will make developers quickly and easily build AR, VR, and 3D apps and run them on mobile devices, head-mounted displays, digital signage, or web browsers.

Developers with the new Sumerian Service can build realistic virtual environments, 3D objects, and animated characters, and also script how they interact with each other. The AR and VR based created on Amazon Sumerian will run in any browser that supports WebGL or WebVR graphics rendering, including Daydream, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and iOS mobile devices.

AR and VR technologies are on rising with two tech giants like Apple with its ARKit and Google with its ARCore are seriously working on improving and offering better virtual experience, it only makes sense by Amazon choose to work the project that has so much scope to it.

Amazon Sumerian

Creating realistic virtual environments, or scenes required tools and skills 3D modeling, environmental design, animation, lighting effects, audio editing, and more, but with Amazon Sumerian, developers can take advantage of the web-based editor and quickly create professional-quality scenes and a visual scripting tool to build the logic that controls how the objects and characters in the scenes behave and respond to actions.

Amazon Sumerian uses AWS services such as Amazon Lex, Amazon Polly, AWS Lambda, AWS IoT, and Amazon DynamoDB. It lets you drag and drop 3D objects and characters into scenes. You can either download or import objects from third-party asset repositories such as Sketchfab or Turbosquid or just use the Sumerian’s library of pre-built objects.

Amazon Sumerian scenes are hosted in the AWS cloud and served from a publicly accessible endpoint so that users can access them from anywhere. Developers just have to signup here and pay for the storage used for 3D assets and the volume of traffic generated to access the virtual scenes they create.
