The new Street View app will now allow users to shoot their own 360-degree panoramas that the company is calling as photo spheres—directly from an iPhone or Android smartphone. Photos can be directly shot from within the new Street View app and they are automatically uploaded to Google Maps. A new Explore tab has been added to the app that will enable you to browse a wide range of existing photo spheres that Google has made available.

Although users can contribute with their Android and iOS devices, Google suggests that advanced users will be able to connect cameras like the Ricoh Theta S, or NCTech iris360 that are devices designed to shoot the 360-degree imagery. After updating the app from Play Store, Android users will see a standalone Street View app in their phone while the new app will replace the Photo Sphere Camera app on iPhone.
