The latest market share data for the Chinese market is out and things are looking very interesting. Wrestling back the crown are Chinese companies Xiaomi and Huawei who have taken the top two spots of the nation’s massive mobile market share.

Quarterly estimates from March 2015 through June 2015 reported by Canalys and Counterpoint Research demonstrate that Xiaomi has the top spot at about 15.9 percent of the total market share. Right at their heels is Huawei with a 15.4 percent marketshare. Huawei has made massive strides in sales numbers thanks to the Honor sub brand which has garnered a lot of consumer attention. All these gains of course come at the expense of Apple that has dropped down to 3rd position with a 12.2 percent market share.

“Huawei recorded the highest smartphone shipments in its history without compromising its product margin or profitability. Apple and Samsung have both increased their sales activities in the China market, expanding rapidly in channel coverage through flagship stores and small to medium size phone retailers respectively,” said a Canalys analyst.

While the prime market seems to be China, both manufacturers are actively seeking to expand to burgeoning markets like India, Brazil and Russia.
