Asus Zenwatch receiving update to Android Lollipop 5.1.1

According to a user on Reddit, he just received an update to Android Lollipop 5.1.1 on his Asus Zenwatch. This makes the Zenwatch the first smartwatch to get the update to v 5.1.1.

Apparently the user himself wasn’t aware of the update taking place till he glanced at his watch. Till now, the only Android smartwatch to have version 5.1 or higher was the LG Urbane and that too, it came preloaded with 5.1.

The update to 5.1 actually brings quite a lot of improvements even though it sounds incremental. The primary one change is the addition of Wi-Fi support on compatible smartwatches. Note that the Zenwatch just like the LG G Watch doesn’t have the necessary hardware to enable this.

Apart from this, you also get always on apps, font size options, abililty to dismiss individual cards, notifies you when you install a new app, scrolling gestures and a new menu to access calls and apps. You also get a lockscreen now.

Now that the Zenwatch has started receiving the update, we can expect other manufacturers to follow suit and release their update for their devices as well.
