HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design with new tri-folding architecture, IP58/IP59 ratings announced

HUAWEI has introduced the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, the latest addition to its ultra-premium lineup, featuring an updated tri-folding architecture, new silicon, and hardware-level privacy protection, as it had announced.

The device employs a G-shaped hinge system with a wing-like aesthetic that measures 12.3 mm when folded and thins to 3.5 mm fully opened. The form factor accommodates flexible single-, dual-, or triple-screen configurations, allowing users to physically angle panels for privacy or task management.

It is rated for IP58/IP59 dust and water resistance. Structural reinforcement includes an outer screen made of basalt glass—rated for 30 times greater drop resistance and 16 times greater scratch resistance—alongside an impact-resistant, multi-layered inner screen.

Display and Design

  • Main Foldable Screen: 10.2-inch panel featuring a 3K resolution and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio.
  • Cover Screen: 6.5-inch display at 2442 × 1140 resolution, capable of reaching a peak brightness of 6,500 nits.
  • Finishes: Available in Black, White, and Purple, incorporating gold-woven brocade elements, a star-diamond camera housing, and a dedicated Extraordinary badge on the hinge.
Processing and Hardware

The phone debuts the Kirin 9050 Pro processor, which integrates a cross-axis graphene VC cooling system with multi-channel thermal interface materials to lower peak gaming temperatures by 2.5°C.

  • Compute: CPU performance is up 42% over the Mate XTs, with a 24% single-core boost and a 52% multi-core improvement.
  • Graphics: The Ma Liang GPU delivers real-time ray tracing capable of processing 50 million lines, increasing rendering performance by 142%.
  • AI: A Da Vinci-based NPU powers an on-device Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) 30-billion-parameter multimodal model with 2 billion active parameters.
  • Connectivity & Security: The Balong baseband supports Tiantong satellite calls, Beidou messaging, 5A terrestrial speeds, post-quantum cryptographic security, and dual chip-level hardware protection.
  • Health: The device integrates ECG analysis certified as a Class II medical device by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
Camera System

The rear quad-camera array includes:

  • Main Sensor: 50MP RYYB LOFIC (1/1.28-inch), F1.49–F4.0 variable aperture, and 18EV dynamic range.
  • Periscope Telephoto: 50MP RYYB, F2.2 aperture, 3.5x optical zoom, optical image stabilization (OIS), and telephoto macro capabilities.
  • Ultra-Wide: 40MP RYYB sensor.
  • Color Sensor: Third-generation Red Maple primary color camera, yielding a 95% boost in color reproduction.
  • Software: Features include AI-assisted communication, pose recommendations, real-time previewing, and a dedicated calendar shooting mode.

Software

Running on HarmonyOS 7, the interface is optimized for multi-window productivity, offering side-by-side multitasking across three concurrent apps, split-screen charting, and a desktop-class PC application environment. The privacy edition utilizes “Lingdun” hardware-level technology: dual-pixel masking directs viewable light strictly forward, shielding visibility from oblique angles.
