Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), has launched the Paytm Payment Gateway Plugin with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The integration allows businesses to access and understand payment information using natural-language prompts within ChatGPT, without switching between multiple dashboards or reports.
Back in August, Paytm Payment Gateway had integrated Claude to power AI‑driven payment queries, and this latest launch further expands its conversational AI capabilities.
Track payments, refunds and settlements
Founders, finance teams and business operations teams can use the plugin to query payment activity and business trends. For example:
- Founders can ask how many payment links issued during a week have been paid.
- Finance teams can check collections or settlement status for a specified period.
- Operations teams can track the status of a refund or subscription.
Responses are generated from the merchant’s authorised Paytm Payment Gateway information based on prompts entered in ChatGPT. The information covers:
- Payment links
- Subscriptions
- Refunds
- Settlements
- Business reporting
Built on MCP with read-only access
The integration is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which securely connects authorised merchant payment information with ChatGPT. Developers can use the plugin to build AI-first business and payment workflows within ChatGPT, reducing the need to create and maintain separate integrations.
Access is protected through secure authentication, remains controlled by the merchant and is limited to information authorised for the integration. The integration is currently read-only, so it can retrieve permitted payment information but cannot:
- Initiate a payment
- Issue a refund
- Move funds
All payment execution continues within Paytm Payment Gateway and remains under the merchant’s control. The integration adds conversational access alongside existing dashboards and APIs, while providing a standardised foundation for businesses building AI-first payment and finance workflows.
Speaking on the integration, Paytm Payment Gateway spokesperson said,
