Amazon two-wheeler store clocks 2x YoY growth, driven by Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities

Amazon has announced its two-wheeler store on Amazon.in recorded 2x year-on-year growth, with demand increasingly coming from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India. The company said customers are purchasing premium motorcycles and electric two-wheelers alongside conventional commuter bikes.

The platform currently offers a selection of vehicles from more than 20 brands across electric, premium, and commuter segments, including Triumph, KTM, Royal Enfield, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy, and Hero MotoCorp. Amazon’s two-wheeler marketplace is supported by over 3,000 OEM-authorized dealers across the country.

Customers are increasingly choosing premium models

According to Amazon, buyers across fuel categories are showing greater interest in vehicles equipped with premium features, connected technologies, advanced safety systems, and stronger long-term ownership value. The average value of a two-wheeler purchased on Amazon.in now exceeds Rs. 1 lakh, indicating a shift toward higher-specification models.

Key growth trends highlighted by the company include:

  • Premium motorcycles: Nearly 5x YoY growth
  • Commuter bikes: More than 2x YoY growth
  • ICE scooters: 1.5x YoY growth
  • Electric two-wheelers priced between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh: More than 50% of total EV demand

Amazon said the EV segment is seeing a shift from entry-level models toward mid-premium electric mobility options.

Demand is growing beyond metro cities

The company said two-wheeler demand on Amazon.in is largely being driven by non-metro markets. Nearly two-thirds of customers purchasing a two-wheeler on the platform come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. In the electric two-wheeler category, this share increases to seven out of ten customers.

Several cities recorded strong year-on-year growth in bookings:

  • Kakinada, Tirupati, and Nellore: Up to 12x growth
  • Nagaur and Jind: Up to 6x growth
  • Jamnagar, Bilaspur, and Rajkot: Up to 6x growth
  • Purnia and Samastipur: Up to 7x growth

Amazon also noted that customers from more than 2,300 Tier 3 towns purchased a two-wheeler online for the first time through Amazon.in during the past 12 months. According to the company, this reflects a broader behavioural shift as more consumers choose to buy two-wheelers online.

Speaking on the milestone, Aman Lohan, Director – Home, Kitchen and Outdoors, Amazon India, said:

The two-wheeler buying journey in India can often be lengthy and overwhelming, with multiple options, fuel types, and price points to evaluate. This can be even more challenging when selection is limited, particularly outside metro cities. For customers, Amazon.in brings together a broad selection across brands, price points, and fuel types in one destination, along with price transparency and the convenience of digital payments. For brands, it helps extend their reach. Over the past two years, we have expanded our selection, tools, and reach to serve both customers and brands, and we will continue to build on this throughout the year.
