Canon India launches #IndiaInMotion campaign to support next-gen filmmakers

Canon India has officially announced the launch of #IndiaInMotion, an eight-month nationwide creator movement designed to empower filmmakers, visual storytellers, and hybrid creators.

The initiative coincides with the expansion of Canon’s video ecosystem, highlighted by the introduction of the EOS R6V camera and the RF 20-50 F4L IS USM Lens—Canon’s first full-frame professional-grade L-series lens.

The campaign aims to establish a unified platform for creators to document and showcase stories centered on India’s diverse communities, cultures, and everyday moments. By focusing on cinematic storytelling, the initiative intends to reflect the country’s expanding creator economy and shifting filmmaking landscape.

Program Structure and Creator Opportunities

As digital-first formats, travel, fashion, weddings, and regional content continue to drive demand for cinematic storytelling, #IndiaInMotion will engage the creative community through a series of challenges, film submissions, and digital showcases.

Over the next eight months, participants will gain access to Canon’s imaging ecosystem and community-led activations. The structured timeline of the movement includes:

  • Community Engagement: Interactive challenges and digital showcases designed to foster creative collaboration.
  • The Shortlist: Twelve selected creators will receive an EOS R6V kit to produce an original film.
  • The Grand Prize: One final winner will receive backing from Canon India to bring their personal passion project to life.

To categorize and streamline the submissions, Canon has divided the initiative into six thematic ‘Motion Worlds’:

Motion World Focus Area
Weddings Emotions in Motion
Travel Geography in Motion
Festivals Culture in Motion
Wildlife Nature in Motion
Fashion Expression in Motion
Food Craft in Motion
Creative Collaborations: Shakun Batra and Maati Baani

To extend the reach of the campaign, Canon India has partnered with acclaimed filmmaker Shakun Batra (Kapoor & Sons, Gehraiyaan), who will serve as the face of #IndiaInMotion. Batra, who recently entered the AI-driven storytelling space with his new venture, Jouska AI, will participate in mentorship programs and creator-led conversations to guide emerging talent throughout the campaign.

Additionally, the musical duo Maati Baani has been brought on board to compose an original soundtrack for #IndiaInMotion. Operating as the movement’s sonic identity, the track will be integrated into the official launch film, promotional content, and user-generated entries to ensure a cohesive thematic experience.

Driving the Creator Economy

The #IndiaInMotion initiative highlights a broader industry shift toward high-quality, video-first content across diverse geographies—ranging from remote Himalayan passes to regional cultural festivals.

Through this campaign and the rollout of the EOS R6V ecosystem, Canon India aims to solidify its positioning in the domestic imaging market by providing creators with the hardware and platforms necessary for modern cinematic production.

Speaking on the launch of #IndiaInMotion, Vishesh Magoo, Assistant Director, Head, Imaging Communication Business Centre, Canon India, said:

India is witnessing a strong shift towards cinematic and video-first storytelling, with powerful stories emerging from every corner of the country across weddings, travel, food, fashion, culture, and regional narratives. At Canon India, we believe storytelling is becoming more cinematic, immersive, and creator-driven than ever before. With #IndiaInMotion, we aim to create a movement that nurtures emerging talent, encourages creative expression, and makes cinematic storytelling more accessible across India. Backed by the EOS R6V, the initiative reflects our commitment to empowering the next generation of creators shaping the future of visual storytelling in India.

Commenting on his association with #IndiaInMotion, filmmaker Shakun Batra said:

The language of filmmaking is changing rapidly, especially with a generation that has grown up documenting life constantly, through travel, relationships, culture and everyday moments. With #IndiaInMotion, Canon is creating a space where creators can explore that instinct more seriously, with access to tools and a larger ecosystem that supports their creative journey. I’m happy to be associated with an initiative that is investing in the future of visual storytelling in such an organic and thoughtful way.
