The HTC Butterfly S is currently one of the costliest phones available in India. It is even costlier than the already costly Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Launched in India on September 4th with a hefty price tag of Rs. 52,428, the Butterfly S has finally landed in our labs for some extensive testing. We were surprised to see the box was actually from Hong Kong, so we took the box in front of a camera and unboxed it right away. Watch the video below and go past the break for more information on the box contents and a few initial impressions of the device.

The phone itself is quite huge. It’s almost the same size as the butterfly, with the same and beautiful 5 inch full HD screen, but the internals have changed a bit. The Butterfly S now runs a 1.9 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 600 processor, similar to the HTC One. And adding more similarities with the One, the Butterfly S sports the same 4 MP Ultrapixel camera with 2.0 Micron pixel size and a f2.0 lens, but without the OIS. The battery has also seen an upgrade, with the S sporting a massive 3200 mAH battery. Apart from the similar internals, the build is another major difference from the Butterfly as well as the One.

Unlike the One, the build is primarily plastic and of the glossy variety. But it definitely feels high quality thanks to the fit and finish akin to that of a car’s paint job. The red accents too, are really impressive to look at. Here are the capacitive buttons and the front facing speakers that are beautifully red –

The display too is stunning to look at, with the screen real estate great for gaming and watching videos. While the design is very much like the HTC One with the curved back and the front facing speakers, we were concerned about the power button’s position and it is indeed a real problem when using it with one hand. It’s crazy that the power button is still at the top but at least now HTC have a reason to put it there, thanks to the it doing double duty as a IR blaster.

Our first impressions of the Butterfly S are really good. It has a great display, and the build quality, although plastic, is good, but we will have a lot more to say in our review and all the upcoming coverage on the Butterfly S, so do keep an eye on the blog and check out our YouTube channel for all the upcoming coverage on the Butterfly S.
