Shifu To Do & Task Manager Review

Shifu-1

Over here at FoneArena, we are passionate about trying out new apps that help us manage our life better and increase productivity. So when we were pitched a new app that aims to be “your smart friend who lives in your smartphone and observes when and how you use your phone”, we jumped on the opportunity. So what is Shifu? In short, it is an application that acts as a personal assistant and helps you manage your life better. Read on to find out more.

The application is fairly simple in its functioning and we’re okay with that as long as it performs the function it was designed to do. Shifu offers reminders that can be set on the basis of time, location and activity. While the first two are self explanatory, activity based reminders allow you to use connected networks, caller information to trigger a reminder. The features work well and are very handy to have. This however is only a subset of the capabilities of Shifu.

The bigger picture is how Shifu mines through your smartphone data and estimates your free time. As the app learns your usage patterns, location and network state, it then recommends tasks when it best deems that you have a moment free. Have a few minutes free between meetings ? Why not wish your friend a happy birthday that it pulled using Facebook data or perhaps return that call you missed earlier today. All this information is displayed via a popup on the live wallpaper that it inserts while setting up the app. You can then act upon the reminder through a three finger pull down gesture.

Still in public beta, Shifu is a very promising application that will only get better with time and usage. We’re not too sure about the level of permissions that the app demands and some users might not be comfortable with it. Also, the battery drain tends to be on the higher side. The application’s homescreen widget could perhaps look a bit better but we can live with it though you will probably have to rearrange your homescreen icons a bit to make it fit better around Shifu’s homescreen notifications. Tempted to try out the app ? Follow through the link to the Play Store and be sure to pass on feedback. The app is currently in a public beta.
