Capdase Smart Tripod Review

Have you ever wanted to take a photograph of yourself in front of a picturesque background or a group shot with your friends but had nobody to hold up the camera ?

Capdase, the popular accessory manufacturer, has a very versatile tripod available which claims to do a great holding up your phone in any position you might want to get that shot. Read on to find out if the accessory actually lives up to its promise.

There has been no dearth of mobile tripods in the past but all of them have had some niggle or the other. In most cases either the mount itself turns out to be flimsy or the positionable legs get too loose. The Capdase mount faces no such issues. We tested it out over an extended period of time and the mount remains solid.

The plastic smartphone mount includes a button at the top, pressing which extends it. You can then insert your phone between the rubber lined tabs and squeeze them shut to ensure a tight hold. Simple yet effective. We do have some lingering doubts regarding how long the mechanism will hold up but so far we have nothing to complain about.

The mount connects to the lower half of the tripod by means of a standard tripod screw. This means that you should be able to use this as a mini tripod for your DSLR or other camera as well ! The screw mount is connected to the legs of the tripod by means of a ball and socket joint which allows quite a lot of versatility in positioning.

Coming to the lower half of the tripod or the part which actually holds up your phone, Capdase has gone for rubber lined flexible legs. Compared to the ball and socket system followed by many, we found the system used by Capdase actually worked better and could hold up even a mid range DSLR with a not too heavy lens.

One of the best ways to test out a tripod is by taking a manual panorama shot involving multiple images and then stitching them together. As you can from the photograph above, the tripod did its job well allowing us to stitch images seamlessly and create a panorama shot.

Conclusion

We think that the Capdase smartphone tripod is a wonderful addition to any mobile photography enthusiast’s gadget bag. It works as advertised and we couldn’t find much to fault with it.

If we had to point out something, it would be the relatively short height of the tripod but then that is a compromise we’ll have to make for the sake of portability. You can grab the Capdase smartphone tripod and other phone holders over at MobileFun. The Capdase Smartphone Tripod is available for £24.95 and for Rs.2499 here.
