OnePlus 16 with 6.78″ 1.5K 185Hz gaming display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 200MP camera, 9000mAh battery announced

OnePlus has officially announced its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, as it had promised. The device introduces notable hardware advancements tailored toward mobile gaming, high-refresh-rate display performance, and extended battery endurance.

Design and Display

The OnePlus 16 is constructed with a four-sided symmetrical bezel profile measuring 1.15mm. It is offered in three finishes: Starlight, Dark Forest, and Martian Masterpiece. The Starlight variant incorporates a silk glass process alongside an integrated breathing light indicator.

The device debuts the fourth-generation “Oriental Screen,” which uses custom X4 luminescent material. Key panel attributes include:

  • Refresh Rates: Global operation up to 165Hz and an industry-first gaming refresh rate reaching 185Hz, driven by a redesigned LTPO circuit.
  • Luminance and Accuracy: Hardware-level minimum brightness down to 1 nit, sunlight mode for high-ambient-light visibility, and triple-calibrated color tuning.
Processing, Architecture, and Cooling

Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip built on a 2nm manufacturing process. According to official performance metrics, the chipset delivers:

  • 13% increase in CPU output
  • 44% gain in GPU processing power
  • 10% improvement in overall energy efficiency
  • Double the sustained performance output compared to prior benchmarks

Supporting the primary processor is a proprietary “e-sports triple-chip” setup comprising the G3 network chip for latency reduction, the P4 super display chip for motion clarity, and the T3 touch chip. Graphics rendering is assisted by the “Wind Chaser Game Kernel,” providing multi-frame generation capabilities.

Thermal management is handled by the “Glacier Cooling System,” which incorporates a zoned acceleration layout that increases thermal gel efficiency by 50%. The device also integrates a high-precision gyroscope calibrated for fine aim and recoil control in shooter titles.

Gaming Optimization

The 185Hz display natively supports several high-frame-rate titles at launch, including PUBG Mobile, Delta Force, Valorant: Energy Operation, Dark Zone, CrossFire: Mobile, Naruto, and Firefly Assault. Additionally, the smartphone supports 165fps+ gameplay with ultra-high graphics in Honor of Kings, with expanded support planned for titles such as Minecraft and Clash of Clans.

Battery, Charging, and Hardware Extras

The OnePlus 16 houses a 9,000mAh Glacier Battery, the largest cell capacity deployed in a OnePlus device to date. Power delivery features include:

  • 100W SuperVOOC wired fast charging
  • 50W wireless charging
  • 27W reverse wired charging
  • Full-scenario bypass charging and OPPO’s Energy Concentration Chip for performance stability at lower charge levels

Additional hardware features include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, symmetrical dual stereo speakers, an X-axis linear vibration motor, tri-band GPS, n79 cellular frequency support, and an ingress protection rating spanning IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K.

Camera Configuration and Software

The imaging system is powered by the LUMO light and shadow engine, configured as follows:

  • Primary Camera: 200MP sensor (1/1.4″ optical format)
  • Telephoto Camera: 50MP periscope lens (1/1.95″ format, 3x optical zoom)
  • Ultra-Wide Camera: 50MP landscape lens
  • Front Camera: 50MP sensor

On the software front, the OnePlus 16 runs ColorOS 17 out of the box. The operating system brings an updated fluid UI design, cross-connectivity with the Apple ecosystem, and expanded AI tools including automatic classroom note organization, formula translation, and academic problem-solving assistance.
