Samsung Electronics America has introduced the Galaxy Tab S12 series in the U.S., comprising the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+. The new tablets join Samsung’s Galaxy Tab lineup with updated hardware, software, accessories, and bundled apps.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 series
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra measures 5.1mm thick, making it Samsung’s thinnest Galaxy Tab. Both models have a thin and light design and carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Samsung has also added a newly designed 3D Vapor Chamber to dissipate heat during demanding tasks such as video editing and graphic design.
The tablets use the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, built on a 3nm process. Compared to the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, Samsung says the new processor delivers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance, and 17% improved GPU performance.
The display specifications are as follows:
- Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display
- Galaxy Tab S12+: 12.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with slimmer bezels than its predecessor
- Refresh rate: 120Hz adaptive
- Peak brightness: Up to 1,600 nits
- Vision Booster: Adjusts brightness in real time based on lighting conditions
In addition, the Galaxy Tab S12 series features four-channel spatial audio, providing twice as many channels as the previous generation. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra offers up to 23 hours of battery life, while the Galaxy Tab S12+ offers up to 21 hours. Both models support 45W charging and can charge from 0% to 100% in about 95 minutes when using the 45W adapter.
S Pen and keyboard accessories
Both tablets come with an ergonomic S Pen with a shape inspired by a pencil. The stylus supports note-taking, annotating materials, and sketching.
Samsung also offers the Pro Keyboard, which has an aluminum finish and a Galaxy AI Key for accessing AI assistants. The Book Cover Keyboard Slim provides adjustable viewing angles and typing support.
Galaxy AI and software
The Galaxy Tab S12 series runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and includes Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI features. Multi Window supports up to three sections, allowing users to keep Samsung Notes alongside other apps. For example, users can watch a lecture, take notes in Samsung Notes, and open an AI assistant at the same time. Note Assist can then summarize the notes.
The tablets also include a six-month trial of Google AI Pro. Its software features include:
- Gemini: Answers questions and provides additional information about topics.
- Gemini Notebook: Combines notes, images, recordings, and files in one workspace and can create summaries, podcasts, and quizzes.
- Samsung Browser: Understands webpage content, context across multiple tabs, and browsing history. It can summarize information from open pages or surface a relevant source viewed previously.
Apps and creative tools
Adobe Photoshop comes pre-loaded on the Galaxy Tab S12 series, marking the first time Photoshop has been pre-loaded on Android tablets. Its tablet-optimized interface supports the S Pen and includes AI Assistant and Adobe Firefly-powered generative AI features such as Generative Fill and Image to Video. Samsung is also offering four months of free access to the Photoshop mobile plan with the tablets.
Notability is also pre-loaded on the Galaxy Tab S12 series, with S Pen optimization and AI-driven study tools. It includes a six-month free trial and 20% off the first subscription.
Other app benefits include:
- Goodnotes: One year of free access
- LumaFusion: 66% discount
- Notion: One month of the Plus plan free
- Clip Studio Paint: Six-month trial and 20% off the first subscription
Samsung says the included app benefits are worth approximately $445.
The tablets also support MyScript Math, which solves handwritten equations and shows the steps. MyScript Notes can summarize handwritten notes into study materials and includes AI tools to explain concepts or generate quizzes. Meanwhile, Noteshelf 3 provides customizable layouts, and ArcSite converts rough field sketches into CAD drawings.
Software and device support
Samsung will provide long-term software and security support for both tablets:
- OS upgrades: Up to seven generations
