Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 with Android and iOS support, Bluetooth 6.0 announced

Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag3, the latest iteration of its item-tracking device, as the successor to the Galaxy SmartTag2. The updated model features a redesigned, compact chassis, extended battery life, and broader software compatibility, alongside upgraded wireless protocols designed to improve locating precision.

Compact Hardware and Cross-Platform Integration

The Galaxy SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor, with a rounded profile featuring an aluminum-accented button. Samsung is offering two dedicated accessories at launch: a Silicone Case with an integrated keyring and a Loop Case. The unit retains an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Under standard operation, the tracker provides up to 550 days of battery life, extending to 790 days when configured in Power Saving Mode.

A notable functional addition is cross-OS compatibility. While previous iterations operated solely within Samsung’s ecosystem, the Galaxy SmartTag3 allows both Galaxy and iOS devices to access core location and sharing features through the SmartThings Find network. This enables multi-platform households to share item access, view location history, and initiate localized searches regardless of operating system.

Extended Tracking and Network Architecture

Location tracking on the SmartTag3 relies on a combination of Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, and the crowdsourced Galaxy Find Network.

  • Long-Range Compass View: Utilizing Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, the tracker provides directional and distance metrics at ranges up to 60 meters—approximately triple the range of the prior model.
  • Precision Finding: Once within close proximity, UWB transitions the interface to high-precision guidance.
  • Crowdsourced Node Network: Outside direct connection range, the device relies on the Galaxy Find Network, which incorporates more than 900 million opted-in Galaxy devices globally to transmit encrypted location updates.
Proactive Alerts and Utility Features

The SmartTag3 expands automated monitoring tools to reduce the need for manual check-ins:

  • Place Notification: Users can designate geographic boundaries to receive automated alerts whenever the tag enters or exits the perimeter.
  • Movement Detection & History: System alerts notify users upon unexpected movement, supplemented by a retrospective Location History log.
  • SmartThings IoT Control: The integrated physical button can trigger preset smart home routines.
  • Lost Mode: An embedded NFC chip allows third parties who locate a lost tag to scan it with any compatible smartphone and view registered contact details.
  • Left Behind Alerts: Push notifications inform users if a direct connection with a tagged belonging drops unexpectedly.

All transmitted location metrics remain end-to-end encrypted to maintain data privacy.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 comes in black and white colors, is priced at USD 29.99 (Rs. 2,875 approx.) for an individual unit and USD 99.99 (Rs. 9,585 approx.) for a four-pack and will roll out in November 2026.
