ARC X1 Gaming Handheld official: 7″ FHD+ 120Hz display, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 SooC, Android AOSP-based OwlOS, 9300mAh battery


ARC has introduced the ARC X1, marking the company’s official entry into the dedicated gaming handheld market, after teasers. Developed over a 16-month cycle with community input, the device pairs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 platform with active cooling, specialized input hardware, and OwlOS—a custom Android-based operating system designed specifically for controller navigation.

Performance and Thermal Management

The ARC X1 is powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 Gaming Platform, fabricated on a 4nm process. The chipset integrates an octa-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU alongside an Adreno A22 GPU. Memory and storage configurations include 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM operating at 8533 MT/s and 128GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage, expandable up to 1TB via a microSDXC slot.

To maintain sustained clock speeds and prevent thermal throttling during extended gameplay, the device employs an active cooling setup. The design utilizes a centrifugal fan that draws air through rear intake vents and expels heat through top-mounted exhaust ports. Users can adjust performance profiles to balance compute output, fan noise, and battery consumption.

Display and Controls

Visuals are handled by a 7-inch Full HD (1920 × 1080) LTPS TFT LCD panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The screen features a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits typical brightness, and roughly 100% sRGB color gamut coverage.

For inputs, ARC opted for zero-drift Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) analog sticks, aimed at lowering power draw while preventing stick drift over time. The primary inputs include:

  • Microswitch-based ABXY face buttons and D-pad
  • Analog Hall-effect triggers equipped with mechanical trigger locks
  • Two programmable rear-grip buttons
  • Built-in stick calibration and per-game remapping tools

Haptic feedback is generated via dual Linear Resonant Actuators (LRAs). Unlike traditional Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM) motors that rely on rotating counterweights, the LRA units drive mass along a fixed axis via electromagnetic force, providing tighter response times and more nuanced tactile cues.

Software and Battery Architecture

The device runs OwlOS, an operating system built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and optimized for controller navigation rather than touch interfaces. OwlOS integrates local Android titles, cloud streaming platforms, and emulation into a single unified launcher. Core software utilities include per-game performance and control configurations, frame-rate overlays, resolution scaling, custom fan curves, and a Quick Resume feature.

Power is supplied by a 9,300mAh battery capable of 27W charging over USB Power Delivery. ARC estimates battery endurance at upwards of eight hours in Silent Mode, depending on display brightness, volume, and workload intensity. A built-in 80% charge threshold limiter is included to mitigate battery degradation over repeated cycles.

Connectivity, Repairability, and Pricing

Audio is delivered through front-facing stereo speakers, dual noise-cancelling microphones powered by Fluence technology, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless standards include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, while the physical USB-C 3.1 port supports display-out capabilities and USB OTG peripherals.

The chassis weighs between 450g and 500g and incorporates modular daughterboards, replaceable analog stick modules, and a user-serviceable battery.

Early Access orders open on October 2 at ₹29,500 for members of ARC’s early waitlist community, followed by a general retail rollout priced at ₹33,500.
