Spotify has introduced a new conversational experience that allows eligible Premium users to interact with the app using voice or text. The feature lets users choose what to play, learn more about music, revisit listening history, and explore podcasts and audiobooks through conversations within Spotify.
The conversational experience is available from the Home screen and Now Playing view on mobile. Users can press the microphone button to speak or type requests and continue a back-and-forth conversation with Spotify.
Control playback and discover music
Users can ask Spotify to play music based on their preferences, discover artists they have not listened to before, and adjust recommendations during the conversation.
The feature supports requests such as:
- Playing music from new artists.
- Refining recommendations based on specific preferences, such as recent releases or a different mood.
- Saving songs.
- Adding tracks to the queue.
- Following artists.
Learn more about songs, artists, podcasts, and audiobooks
From the Now Playing view, users can ask Spotify about songs, albums, artists, and genres. The feature can provide information about:
- A song’s background or inspiration.
- Album release details.
- Genre information.
- Related artists, sounds, and stories.
- The creative process behind music.
The conversational experience also extends to podcasts and audiobooks. Users can ask about the people, stories, and ideas connected to the content they are listening to, including:
- Other books written by an author.
- Other podcasts featuring a guest.
Explore listening history
Spotify can answer questions about a user’s listening activity using information such as playlists, favorite artists, repeat listens, and listening history.
Users can ask about:
- When they first listened to a song.
- Which genres they have recently explored.
- Their frequently played songs, artists, and genres.
Availability
Spotify’s conversational experience is rolling out gradually in beta for Premium users aged 18 and above in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden. The feature is available in English on Spotify’s mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. Spotify said responses may not always be perfect during the beta phase, and user feedback will help improve future updates.
