Google Play Store could warn users when Android apps are removed

Google could soon notify users when installed Android apps are removed from the Google Play Store and stop receiving updates, according to an APK teardown report by Android Authority. The change was spotted in Play Store v51.4.19 code and suggests Google is developing a system to alert users when apps disappear from the store after installation.

At present, users are not informed when an app is removed and usually notice it only later when reinstalling on a new device, switching phones, or through external reports. This creates a visibility gap where app availability changes silently.

Currently, Google Play Protect only alerts users about apps flagged for harmful behaviour or serious policy violations. Apps removed for non-security reasons—such as developer withdrawal, policy changes, or compliance updates—are typically delisted without any notification to existing users.

If introduced, alerts would notify users when an app is removed from the Google Play Store and no longer receives updates, including cases involving multiple apps. This would make an app’s status and support situation clearer for users.

There is no official confirmation or release timeline, as the feature remains hidden in teardown code and may still change before launch.
