iOS 27 said to bring AI Writing, standalone Siri app, and more

Apple has confirmed the keynote date for its WWDC 2026 at 10 AM PDT (10:30 PM IST) on June 8. With its flagship software event just a few weeks away, reputable Bloomberg Apple analyst Mark Gurman has tipped a slew of AI features and the company’s approach for the upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

It is said that Apple will introduce a dedicated Siri app with more privacy controls, AI-powered writing tools, the ability to create systemwide shortcuts using natural language, and custom wallpaper generation.

AI-Assisted Writing across OS

With competitors like Google, Samsung, and OPPO all introducing AI-assisted writing, Apple is eyeing a similar approach to make AI more accessible quickly. The company is testing a new “Write With Siri” toggle at the top of the keyboard as well as a “Help Me Write” option that appears when users activate Siri while working in a text field, the report suggests.

While typing, AI goes through words and sentences and proactively suggests changes. Users can accept individual suggestions, approve all changes, or ignore them altogether. It is also said to offer controls to pause grammar checking and navigate between flagged sections of text.

Dedicated Siri

Apple’s Siri revamp is long overdue. The delay is primarily due to Apple’s privacy-first approach of handling users’ data for AI operations, which involves processing it through dedicated servers for more intense AI tasks. It is said that at WWDC ’26, privacy will play as a “centerpiece of its presentation” with AI data processed on Private Cloud Compute, as suggested by Apple.

This means more advanced AI requests would run through cloud infrastructure powered by Apple’s in-house server chips. It’s unclear whether Apple would detail more on this, as it now relies on Google’s Gemini for intense AI tasks. So, most probably, the security infrastructure would be handled by Google.

The standalone Siri app will rival apps like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude with distinctive features like auto-deleting chats, where users will be able to choose to keep conversations for 30 days, one year, or forever; an ad-free experience; and more.

Other AI Features

Another notable feature of Apple’s upcoming AI capabilities includes a new Siri mode for analyzing visual data through the camera app, as well as multiple editing tools for the Photos app.

Genmoji, emoji created by natural language, will also get an upgrade. To improve user adoption, the company might introduce “Suggested Genmoji,” created from your photos and commonly typed phrases.

Apple is also said to be planning an upgraded version of Shortcuts, an app for creating time-savers, such as for sharing calendar availability or summarizing a PDF, or automations like opening the garage door and turning on lights when arriving home.

The version now in testing lets users create shortcuts simply by describing what they want them to do. Currently, users must manually create shortcuts within the app or download them via Apple’s App Store.

Lastly, Apple is preparing a feature that lets users generate wallpapers — the background images on a device’s screen — with AI.

We should get to know more of these AI features at WWDC 2026.
